PSEO Census Data Updates

On June 4, 2026, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an order (Disclosure Avoidance for Statistical Products, DAO 216-26) that bans statistical privacy protection techniques such as noise infusion. The U.S. Census Bureau is an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce. This order, effective immediately, applies to all statistical products from the U.S Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis. This includes PSEO data.

The order can be accessed here.

  • At this time, existing PSEO data will remain live in the PSEO Explorer and downloadable datasets.
  • The upcoming release of PSEO data by the U.S. Census Bureau, including that of new institutions and agencies, is delayed and will not occur in July 2026.
  • Any official information on PSEO and other related data will come from the U.S. Census Bureau.

While we do not have official word from the ruling, we expect this will impact other tools within the Longitudinal Employer-Households Dynamics (LEHD) and other Census products such as the American Community Survey (ACS).

We are seeking to keep PSEO Coalition members and partners informed on the status of PSEO data as we know it. We will share official updates from the U.S. Census Bureau as they are released.

We are also continuing with business as usual, including all meetings, convenings, and learning activities.

If you have any questions or want to speak about this in more detail, please reach out to Gina Johnson, Director of the PSEO Coalition, at director@pseocoalition.org
